PNP admits complications in Quiboloy arrest amid resistance from supporters

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) admitted on Thursday that they are facing significant challenges in executing arrest warrants for Apollo Quiboloy, the fugitive religious leader, due to resistance from his supporters.

Brigadier General Roderick Augustus Alba, chief of PNP communications, acknowledged the difficulties encountered. “We are being challenged in our operations because of the resistance from the members of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC),” Alba said. “This is a complex situation; it is a challenge for us.”

Alba assured the public that police operations are conducted according to legal procedures. “All officers are following legal procedures. Huwag maalarma ang mga kasamahan natin sa KOJC and even the surrounding communities. The police follow the operational procedures,” he emphasized. “It is not anarchy and chaos,” he added, noting that the number of police personnel deployed is based on operational needs.

The situation has led to significant public and economic impacts. Business activities, tourism, and general economic movement in the area have been disrupted. Both the PNP and KOJC are engaged in a contentious exchange of legal arguments and procedural disputes, compounded by a series of disinformation campaigns.

He clarified that the PNP’s focus is on apprehending Quiboloy and his co-accused in human trafficking and child abuse cases, rather than targeting KOJC members. “We are not running after KOJC members but only Quiboloy and his co-accused,” he said.

While the PNP is appealing for community support in the arrest or surrender of Quiboloy, KOJC officials have leveled accusations of excessive force and intimidation against the police. They have also alleged that the PNP planned to bomb their cathedral—a claim the PNP has firmly denied.

As the situation continues to unfold, both the PNP and KOJC are vying to control the narrative and garner public support for their respective causes.

There has been some speculation about the absence of Police Regional Director Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III from the media spotlight. Alba, is a two-star general and head of PNP communications, while Torre is a one-star general and serves as the regional director, It was PNP XI spokesperson Catherine Dela Rey who represented the PRO XI.

While both sides are engaged in legal and procedural disputes, the reality remains that Quiboloy, who has claimed to be the appointed son of God, continues to evade arrest. His refusal to face justice has led to widespread disruption, affecting local businesses, tourism, and the daily lives of the public.

The ongoing situation calls an urgent need for resolution and highlights the broader impact of Quiboloy’s fugitive status on the community.
