BOC-Clark seizes PhP 17.17 million worth of high-grade “Kush” Marijuana

DAVAO CITY , PHILIPPINES — A major drug seizure was conducted by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) – Port of Clark, resulting in the apprehension of nearly 10.5 kilos of high-grade “Kush” marijuana, valued at approximately PhP 17.17 million.

The operation was carried out in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Philippine National Police – Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEG), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Pampanga District Office, the Department of Justice (DOJ), and local barangay officials of Dau.

The shipment in question arrived on August 6, 2024, and was initially declared as two pieces of “one-seater sofas.” Suspicion arose during the BOC’s X-ray Inspection Project (XIP), which revealed unusual images. A subsequent K-9 sniff test confirmed the presence of illegal substances.

Upon physical inspection, authorities discovered 23 self-sealing transparent plastic sachets containing dried leaves and fruiting tops suspected to be high-grade marijuana, also known as “Kush.” The sachets were packed into 12 and 11 packs, respectively.

Samples of the seized substance were forwarded to PDEA for chemical analysis. The results confirmed that the materials were indeed marijuana, classified as a dangerous drug under R.A. No. 9165.

A Warrant of Seizure and Detention was issued for the shipment for violating Sections 118(g), 119(d), and 1113 paragraphs f, i, and l (3 and 4) of R.A. No. 10863, also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA), in conjunction with R.A. No. 9165.

District Collector Erastus Sandino B. Austria praised the personnel for their unwavering dedication to the BOC’s mission to combat illegal drug proliferation.

Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio, following directives from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., reaffirmed the BOC’s commitment to preventing drug smuggling.

“The BOC pledges to uphold its role in safeguarding the nation’s borders and protecting our citizens from the dangers of illegal drugs and substances,” Rubio stated.
