DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The Regional Trial Court (RTC) has issued a cease and desist order against the Philippine National Police (PNP) XI, mandating an immediate halt to any actions that jeopardize the life, liberty, or security of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) members and their properties.
In a decision signed by Judge Mario Duaves of RTC Branch 15 on August 27, the court ordered the PNP XI to dismantle all barricades, barriers, and blockades surrounding the KOJC compound and the Jose Maria College Foundation. The ruling follows a petition filed earlier in the day by the legal counsel for KOJC and the college.
The court’s order comes in response to a complaint lodged by Lawyer Israelito Torreon against Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos and various PNP officials.
The petition alleges that the PNP’s actions on August 24 at the KOJC compound infringed upon the petitioners’ religious, academic, and property rights.
The court’s directive specifically states, “The PNP XI is hereby ordered to remove all forms of barricades, barriers, or blockades that bar access to and from the subject compound and hinder the petitioners’ rights and the pursuit thereof by its officers and members within and surrounding the premises.”
This decision highlights the judiciary’s role in ensuring that law enforcement actions do not unduly impede individual rights and freedoms.
The order requires the PNP XI to comply and remove any obstructions that restrict access to the KOJC compound and related facilities.
