DAVAO CITY, Philippines — An unidentified gunman fatally shot Barangay Captain Brendan Castro, the husband of Davao Oriental Board Member Tata Nuñez-Castro, in Poblacion, Cateel on the afternoon of July 26, 2024.
According to Police Castro was shot outside the Barangay Hall at around 3:00 PM. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Castro also served as the President of the League of Barangays in Cateel, was a prominent figure in the municipality.
Castro was the spouse of Board Member Tata Nuñez-Castro and the brother-in-law of Cateel Mayor Emilou “Meloy” Nuñez.
In an interview with Newsline Philippines, Mayor Nuñez expressed his shock at the incident, stating, “We are still in shock. The police are conducting an investigation, and we are still seeking answers about the incident.” He urged the community to remain calm and trust the ongoing police investigation.
