Police seize PHP 5.6M smuggled cigarettes in Sulu

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Law enforcement operatives in Patikul, Sulu, seized 97 cases of smuggled cigarettes valued at approximately PHP 5.6 million in an operation conducted around 1:00 AM on July 1.

Acting on an intelligence report, officers from the Patikul Municipal Police Station and the 4th Regional Mobile Force Company (RMFC) of RMFB 14-B swiftly formed a joint operation, leading to the successful confiscation along the coastlines of Patikul.

The suspect, a resident of Patikul, is currently in custody at the Patikul Municipal Police Station for further investigation. The seized cigarettes will be handed over to the Bureau of Customs in Sulu to ensure proper legal proceedings.

PBGEN Prexy D. Tanggawohn, Acting Regional Director of PRO BAR, commended the involved units for their significant achievement. “In light of numerous recent apprehensions of smuggling activities, we send an unequivocal message to violators: it is time to cease your unlawful practices. PRO BAR is unwavering in its commitment to eradicating smuggling and will continue to intensify its operations until this illegal trade is completely stopped,” he stated.

Authorities continue to urge the public to report any suspicious activities, reinforcing the community’s role in combating smuggling and other illegal activities.
