DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation has collaborated with the Department of Justice (DOJ) to support the DOJ Action Center (DOJAC) and the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) in responding to the concerns of the Marawi Compensation Board (MCB).
In a statement, the NBI said they responded to the request to and request assist DOJ Undersecretary Atty. Margarita N. Gutierrez concerning the Marawi Compensation Board (MCB).
The MCB is responsible for implementing the provisions of the Marawi Siege Victim’s Compensation Act of 2022.
As part of the government’s collaborative effort to fulfill this significant task, the Iligan District Office assigned Rovira, Dagohoy, and Taher to provide assistance and security to Undersecretary Gutierrez during her initial visit to Marawi City on June 5, 2024.
They were accompanied by DOJAC Program Director Atty. Joan Carla V. Guevarra. During this visit, they conducted an ocular inspection as part of the DOJ’s Katarungan Caravan, where a Mobile Clearance System was deployed, catering to an average of 30-40 clients daily. They also met with MCB Chairperson Atty. Maisara C. Dandamon Latiph to discuss pressing issues where the NBI’s support could be invaluable.
On Undersecretary Gutierrez’s second visit, the same NBI personnel were again tasked with assisting as needed during the conclusion of the DOJ’s Katarungan Caravan.
Discussions during this visit highlighted the crucial role the NBI could play in assisting and expediting resolutions for displaced residents of the Marawi siege. Undersecretary Gutierrez identified the need for a satellite office in Marawi City to ensure convenient access to NBI services for the people of Marawi and Lanao Del Sur, in alignment with the Bureau’s mandate.
