Philippines and Indonesia launch PHILINDO STRIKE IV-2024 joint military exercises

DAVAO CITY, Philippines –-The highly anticipated PHILINDO STRIKE IV-2024, a significant bilateral military exercise between the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), officially began today at the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division Headquarters in Camp Siongco, Maguindanao del Norte. The 6ID is proudly hosting this year’s joint exercises.

The opening ceremony occurred at the Officer’s Club House of Camp Siongco, where Col. Edgar L. Catu, Chief of Staff of the 6ID, welcomed the participating forces. In his opening address, Col. Catu underscored the exercise’s importance in reinforcing the strong partnership between the two nations.

“This bilateral exercise is a testament to the enduring friendship and cooperation between the Philippines and Indonesia,” Col. Catu stated. “I am confident that PHILINDO STRIKE IV-2024 will provide an invaluable platform for learning, collaboration, and mutual benefit.”

Col. Jose Ambrosio F. Rustia, Assistant Division Commander for Reservist and Retirees Affairs, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the strategic significance of the exercises.

“PHILINDO STRIKE IV-2024 represents a crucial advancement in military cooperation between our nations,” Col. Rustia remarked. “The exercise is designed to enhance our joint operational readiness, improve strategic communication, and build mutual trust.”

Col. Inf Yoki Malinton Kurniafari, Commander of the 11th Infantry Brigade Badik Sakti of the Tentara Nasional Indonesia Angkatan Darat (TNI-AD), led the Indonesian delegation. In his remarks, Col. Kurniafari reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening military ties with the Philippines.

“Indonesia is dedicated to enhancing our military collaboration and building robust security frameworks with our Philippine counterparts. By fostering cooperation and exchanging strategies and experiences, we aim to advance our strategic planning and joint capabilities,” he said.

Over the coming days, PHILINDO STRIKE IV-2024 will feature various training activities designed to boost the operational synergy and effectiveness of both nations’ armed forces.

The exercises are focused on improving operational readiness, addressing international security threats, and tackling challenges specific to the Southeast Asian region, which demands heightened preparedness.

The 6th Infantry Division remains actively engaged in bilateral and multilateral exercises with international military partners, recognizing the importance of these collaborations.

These engagements are crucial for enhancing the division’s operational capabilities, effectively responding to contingencies, addressing emerging security threats, and improving readiness for humanitarian and disaster response scenarios.
