DAVAO CITY — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. urged media practitioners on Friday to “keep pushing the boundaries” of journalism while innovating and adapting without sacrificing their core principles.

“Together, let us foster responsible journalism, for it is not just a democratic ideal but a necessity for an informed and empowered citizenry to make intelligent decisions about their leaders and their circumstances,” President Marcos stated during the 50th Anniversary of the Publishers Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PAPI).

“As we celebrate this milestone, I encourage you to continue exploring what it means to be a journalist. Innovate. Adapt. But never compromise your principles. This Administration is committed to supporting you in shaping our narrative—not just for today’s headlines but for the history we are yet to create,” he added.

The President also emphasized the importance of telling meaningful stories and urged journalists to “keep that light steady, no matter how fierce the storm.”

He reassured the audience of the government’s commitment to bring justice to journalists who have been killed while performing their duties.

“Rest assured, we are doubling down on our commitment to protect journalists and uphold press freedom. We stand with you in this fight,” he declared.

Marcos mentioned that the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) and the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) are actively pursuing efforts to promote responsible journalism, press freedom, and media security.
