DAVAO CITY — City Police Director Colonel Hansel Marantan has ordered all units of the police force to search for the driver who ignored and almost ran over a traffic enforcer on Saturday morning inside the vicinity of a local mall here.
Marantan told Newsline, “We got his license plate number, but unfortunately, the system of the Land Transportation Office is closed. Tomorrow, we will see what will happen.”
An official of the LTO also said, “We cannot open the system now because the office is closed, unlike before 2021 when the contractor provided us a 24/7 app and we can track the number and the vehicles.”
The city police director is known for being harsh in dealing with lawless criminals and violators.
In a video furnished to Newsline Philippines, the still unidentified driver ignored the personnel of the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO), who flagged him down and was about to issue a citation ticket. To stop the driver, the traffic personnel blocked the front of the vehicle, but the driver pushed and swerved toward the main road.

As of this posting, the specific laws violated by the driver are unclear. However, the driver could likely be charged under the Republic Act No. 4136 (Land Transportation and Traffic Code), particularly for Reckless Driving (Section 48), which penalizes dangerous driving that endangers lives and properties.
Additionally, the driver could be charged with Resistance and Disobedience to a Person in Authority (Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code), as he ignored the lawful instructions of a traffic enforcer and attempted to flee.
Another possible charge could involve Reckless imprisonment resulting in Damage to Property or even Physical Injury if the traffic enforcer were injured during the incident.
“The driver should face the consequence of his actions. We will see what happens next,” Marantan added.
