MisOcc Governor Oaminal leads resiliency efforts in calamity-hit areas

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The provincial governor of Misamis Occidental is spearheading the government’s resiliency campaign for families affected by the December 2022 shear line disaster by uniting all relevant agencies for a comprehensive recovery program.

Last week, Governor Henry Oaminal met with local government officials, as well as representatives from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), National Irrigation Authority (NIA), and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), along with Sangguniang Panlalawigan members, to discuss the necessary approaches to expedite recovery in affected communities.

The group is advancing the idea of a Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) to accelerate infrastructure projects funded by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (NDRRM).

“We need to act collectively and with urgency, as disasters strike without prior notice,” Oaminal emphasized.

Among the identified projects are:

  • Oroquieta City: Reconstruction of Tabok Norte Provincial Road, President’s Bridge, Tolyok Bridge, Paca River Revetment, and flood control measures in various barangays.
  • Tudela: Reconstruction of flood control structures in Barangays Pan-ay Diot, Locsoon, Taguima, and Upper Centro.

Oaminal stated that this collective approach will enable all stakeholders to work together to strengthen Misamis Occidental’s resilience and turn this crisis into an opportunity for growth. The comprehensive response plan reflects a proactive stance on disaster management and community support.
