DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The 3.77-kilometer Panguil Bay Bridge, which cost P4.859 billion, has been completed, but critical finishing touches are still ongoing. As a result, the provincial government has issued an advisory regarding restrictions on the bridge’s use.
“We urge the public to observe these restrictions for their safety,” emphasized Misamis Occidental Governor Henry S. Oaminal.
In the advisory, the Governor highlighted the need to restrict unauthorized access to the bridge, as it could hinder the final works.
The advisory stated that “any damages caused by unauthorized passage will be charged to the responsible individuals (offenders).”
Governor Oaminal noted that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the contractors have requested support from the provincial government. “The lights on the bridge and the cement on one end still need to dry and be beautified,” he added.
Due to these concerns, Governor Oaminal has issued a notice asking motorists not to cross the bridge.
This landmark project is significant not only for the people of Misamis Occidental but also for those in Lanao del Sur and motorists from the Zamboanga Peninsula.
The Panguil Bay Bridge connects Tangub City in Misamis Occidental to Tubod, Lanao del Norte.
The ban on motorists using the Panguil Bay Bridge is essential for safety, as explained by Governor Oaminal.
Funding for the bridge comes from the Morang Economic Development Cooperation Agreement and the Philippine government.
The construction is being carried out by Nanmkwang Engineering and Construction Corporation and Yooshin Engineering Corporation from South Korea, under a joint venture with Kukdong Engineering and Construction Company and Lyong-Ho Engineering and Architects.
Expenses not covered in the agreement between the Philippines and the Korean bank are being funded by the Philippine government.
Previously, the journey from Tubod, Lanao del Sur, to Tangub City, Misamis Occidental, took 3 to 4 hours, but with the new bridge, it will take just 10 minutes. The bridge is expected to be inaugurated in September, allowing motorists to use it.
The Panguil Bay Bridge is not just a transit route; it also represents a pathway for economic development and tourism that will benefit the people of Mindanao.
