DAVAO CITY, Philippines — A Chinese national wanted in Beijing for trafficking his fellow countrymen to work for online gaming in the Philippines was arrested by the Bureau of Immigration.
Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco identified the fugitive as 35-year-old Wang Chuancong, who was apprehended on July 30 inside his condominium unit along Roxas Blvd. in Parañaque City by operatives from the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU).
Tansingco stated that he issued a mission order for Wang’s arrest at the request of the Chinese government, which informed the bureau of the fugitive’s presence in the country.
Wang is subject to a detention warrant issued by the municipal public security bureau in Jinjiang, China, in April 2024, where he faces charges for human trafficking—a serious offense under Chinese law.
“We were informed that he heads a syndicate that facilitates the illegal departure of Chinese nationals by forging documents for their outbound travel from China,” said Tansingco. “This allows them to travel to various countries, including the Philippines, to work in online gaming hubs,” he added.
It was also revealed that Wang is currently an undocumented alien due to the cancellation of his passport by the Chinese government. He has been committed to the BI warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City, pending deportation proceedings.
A check of the BI’s travel database indicated that Wang had been in the Philippines since February, when he arrived as a tourist.
