2 Chinese nationals, Filipino arrested for transporting smuggled cigarettes

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Operatives from the Police Regional Special Operations Group apprehended two Chinese nationals and a Filipino while they were transporting smuggled cigarettes along Bypass Road in Barangay Communal, Buhangin District, on Monday morning.

The contraband was discovered when RSOG operatives, in coordination with Buhangin Police, set up a checkpoint at around 5:04 PM on August 12, 2024.

The convoy, consisting of an Elf truck and an SUV, was intercepted while allegedly carrying smuggled cigarettes. According to the police report, the Elf truck was driven by an individual identified as Allan, with another Chinese national, identified as Pan, as a passenger.

The truck did not have a license plate, while the SUV, driven by an individual named Dehong, was found to have the driver not wearing a seatbelt.

It was determined that both vehicles were not registered with the Land Transportation Office and lacked government permits.

The truck was loaded with 8,500 reams of smuggled cigarettes, and both vehicles were subsequently impounded by law enforcement.
