Two children perish in Davao City fire

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Two children were charred to death when a fire of still unknown origin struck Puroks 2 and 3, Barangay 2-A on Magallanes Street in Davao City on July 13, 2024, around 8:25 PM.

The CB Bangoy Fire Station promptly responded to the incident, which quickly escalated to a 3rd alarm. Unfortunately, the blaze resulted in two fatalities and five reported injuries.

According to the BFP R11 Davao City District, initial estimates suggest damages totaling Php2,250,000.00, affecting an area of approximately 2,000 square meters. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames by 01:05 AM on July 14, 2024.

The incident impacted 203 families, with initial reports indicating that 150 houses were destroyed, according to a statement from the Bureau of Fire.

A list from the City Social Services Department showed that the fire displaced 203 families comprised of 545 individuals, including 72 owners, 70 renters, 13 sharers, 42 boarders, and 1 caretaker.

The city government has responded promptly to the needs of the victims, and relief operations are ongoing.

Responding units included personnel from CB Bangoy Fire Station, Bajada Fire Station, SPMC Fire Station, Lanang Fire Station, DCFD-EMS, DCFD-SRF, and other volunteer fire brigades.
