The Top 5 Takeaways from the Premiere of Hulu’s The Kardashians

America’s most famous family is back on our screens—and it’s almost as if no time has passed.

While Kim and her family said an emotional goodbye to Keeping Up with the Kardashians on E! in 2021, they’ve returned with a flashy, upgraded series (dubbed simply The Kardashians) that you can now stream on Hulu.

The series has been described as an “all-access pass” into the lives of the Kardashians, as well as a chance “to reveal the truth behind the headlines,” but thus far the first two episodes mostly show us more of what we already know. We see Kourtney’s relationship with Travis Barker blossom, Kim navigate family life while separated from Kanye West, and Khloé keep Tristan Thompson at a healthy distance. But because the family is constantly in the headlines, it doesn’t really feel as if we’re witnessing anything new.

If anything, the new Hulu iteration is the perfect show for Kardashian superfans who want a closer look at where the family is at now and how they run their businesses, punctuated, of course, by the classically funny interactions between the sisters.

Below, are the top 5 takeaways from The Kardashians. Happy bingeing!

You still get all of the family, just not all at once.

The Kardashians have explained in multiple press interviews leading up to their new show’s premiere that the Hulu iteration will focus more on what the sisters are up to individually, rather as a unit. The hour-long episodes follow each member of the family (normally Kim, Kourtney, Khloe, and Kris—so far younger sisters Kylie and Kendall Jenner aren’t quite so front and center in the series) throughout daily routines that include business meetings, birthday parties, and sister lunch dates over Cobb salad.

They really drag out Kim’s Saturday Night Live appearance.

Whoever is in The Kardashians editing room knows what they’re doing. The first two episodes of the series show Kim accepting the offer to host Saturday Night Live, followed by her preparation for the big night. We see her stressing over her monologue and consulting her estranged husband Kanye West for advice (she claims he even considered dropping his music career to be Kim’s full-time stylist).

Of course, we all know what this is leading up to: the first time Kim meets her now IRL-boyfriend, comedian Pete Davidson. (The pair shared their first kiss for all of the world to see during an Aladdin-themed skit during the episode last year). But fans shouldn’t expect to see a Davidson cameo just yet—Kim confirmed he didn’t sign off on being featured while cameras were rolling during SNL rehearsals.

“I have not filmed with him. And I’m not opposed to it. It’s just not what he does,” she told Variety. “But if there was an event happening and he was there, he wouldn’t tell the cameras to get away. I think I might film something really exciting coming, but it wouldn’t be for this season.”

We get a glimpse of Kylie Jenner’s second pregnancy.

While Kylie was famously tight-lipped about her first pregnancy with daughter Stormi (whom she shares with rapper Travis Scott), The Kardashians sees the youngest sister proudly show off her second baby bump while at home and at work, with her family fawning over her at every moment. Something we definitely won’t find out from watching? Her son’s name—because even Kylie Jenner still hasn’t confirmed what it is.

Yes, Khloe talks about Tristan.

In the first two episodes, Khloe still seems to be debating what role Tristan Thompson should play in her life. She definitely wants him around as a father to their daughter True, but she doesn’t seem keen on rekindling their romance.

“Right now, Tristan and I are just friends. I love the relationship that he and I have, but my biggest focus is being a mom to my beautiful angel True,” she says during the show.

There’s tons of #Kravis PDA.

Booty grabs. Makeout sessions in strangers’ backyards while house-hunting. Intense back rubs at the dinner table. Kourtney Kardashian and her fiancé Travis Barker provide it all this season. When the two aren’t glued at the hip, they’re planning out how to gradually blend their families together. We even see glimpses of Barker planning his October proposal to the eldest Kardashian sister.

What we still want to know:

Will the family address the Astroworld tragedy? Kim and Pete’s double dates with Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez? The drama between “Skete” and Kanye? Stay tuned.

Watch The Kardashians on Thursdays only on Hulu.
