DAVAO CITY  – Filipinos and other foreign nationals gathered outside the detention facility in The Hague to show their support for former President Rodrigo Duterte, who was brought to the Netherlands to face trial for crimes against humanity before the International Criminal Court (ICC).

In a live video streamed by Jha Ja, Filipinos lined the roadside, eagerly waiting for the vehicle transporting Duterte to the detention center. As his convoy passed, they cheered and waved, expressing solidarity and concern for the former president.

Some onlookers who were not Filipinos were also seen in the footage, observing the gathering. Supporters could be heard saying they were simply there to witness Duterte’s safe arrival in the Netherlands, following his high-profile arrest in Manila.

Duterte was arrested on March 11, 2025, at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3, upon his arrival in the Philippines from Hong Kong, where he had attended an event thanking OFWs for their support. His arrest was carried out in coordination with Philippine authorities and Interpol, following an ICC-issued warrant for crimes against humanity linked to his administration’s controversial war on drugs.

With Duterte now in The Hague, the world watches as he prepares to face an unprecedented legal battle, while his supporters continue to rally behind him—both in the Philippines and abroad.
