Two Chinese nationals arrested for illegal practice of medicine in Parañaque on NewsLine Philippines - Building Information Highway for the Community
DAVAO CITY – Two Chinese nationals were arrested on Tuesday for the illegal practice of medicine at the Imperial Plaza Residence in Barangay Tambo, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) announced on Wednesday.
In a statement, CIDG chief Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said the foreigners, identified as Huan and Jian, were arrested for violating Republic Act (RA) 3720, as amended by RA 9711 (The Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009), and RA 2382 (The Medical Act of 1959).
The suspects are accused of engaging in the manufacture, sale, offering for sale, or transfer of adulterated or misbranded food, drugs, devices, or cosmetics.
During the arrest, authorities confiscated numerous boxes of assorted medicines and drugs, medical supplies and equipment, surgical instruments, an infusion alarm, a laptop used for the Ultrasound Diagnostic System, notebooks detailing medical procedures, and Chinese prescription receipts.
The suspects were unable to provide the necessary licenses and permits to dispense medical products, operate a medical clinic, or practice medicine in the country.
Torre emphasized the government’s commitment to safeguarding the health of Filipinos, stating that it is the State’s policy to establish and maintain mechanisms that protect and promote the right to health. He added, “It is also the policy of the State to ensure a safe and high-quality supply of food, drugs, and cosmetics, and to regulate the production, sale, and traffic of these products to protect public health.”
