DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The southwest monsoon, known locally as “habagat,” will persist across Southern Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao, bringing rain showers and thunderstorms, according to the latest report from the state weather bureau.
In its 4 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecasted that northern areas of Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Aklan, Antique, and Negros Occidental will experience monsoon rains. Residents in these areas should be alert for potential landslides due to heavy to intense rainfall.
The provinces of Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, and Batangas, as well as the rest of MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, and the Negros Island regions, will see occasional rains. PAGASA has advised residents in these areas to remain cautious of possible landslides and flooding from moderate to heavy rains.
Metro Manila, the Zamboanga Peninsula, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), SOCCSKSARGEN, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Zambales, Bataan, and other parts of the Visayas, Calabarzon, and the Bicol Region are expected to have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms. These areas may experience landslides and flash floods during periods of moderate to heavy rainfall.

The Visayas and various regions, including the western section of Southern Luzon and the western, northern, and eastern sections of Mindanao, will encounter strong winds and rough waters, with waves ranging from 2.8 to 4 meters high.
Moderate to rough waters, with waves ranging from 2.1 to 3.7 meters high, are expected in other parts of Southern Luzon and Mindanao. The rest of Luzon will experience slight to moderate waters.
For today, sunrise occurred at 5:45 a.m., and sunset is expected at 5:57 p.m.
