Torre to Quiboloy’s supporters: Look before you leap

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Police Regional Director Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III has responded sharply to the supporters of fugitive televangelist Apollo Quiboloy, urging them to reconsider their criticism before acting.

During the Monday flag-raising ceremony at the PNP Camp, Torre addressed his personnel, saying, “If you are ridiculed, don’t let it bother you. Remind them that we are professionals and are not influenced by anyone.”

Turning the criticism back on Quiboloy’s supporters, Torre remarked,  “Ni-re-ridicule nila tayo na tayo ay mga utusan?

(They mock us as mere servants and question our integrity, but do they not see their situation? Their panelists, who defend a man with a warrant of arrest for child abuse, should be ashamed. While we are being ridiculed, we must remember that we are professional police officers, not influenced by politicians. They, on the other hand, are defending someone who is hiding from the law).

Torre, who has faced personal ridicule, including being humorously compared by Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte to “Diwata,” an endorser for local food, said police officers should focus on their duties rather than the criticism they face.

He also addressed recent criticism from a blogger who had previously sought his assistance. “She criticized me for ordering an early morning jog, not realizing that I was just an inch away from her during that time,” Torre explained.

Responding to claims that the arrest warrants held by the police are invalid, Torre stated, “If the warrants were invalid, why is Pauline Canada still in jail? She has been unable to post bail.”

Regarding checkpoints near the Davao Airport, Torre defended their presence, stating, “There are many hotels and businesses in the area, and the checkpoints have been in place since my high school days. No one complained except them because checkpoints are a common sight.”

In conclusion, Torre affirmed, “We will overcome these challenges. We will continue to enforce the law without fear or favor.”

He also clarified that he had not received any specific orders related to Quiboloy.

Motorists passing by the airport highway have raised concerns about members of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) using the area as a parking space, while illegally parked vehicles in other areas are towed and penalized.

As the situation with Quiboloy develops, KOJC members continue to defend their founder, believing him to be the appointed Son of God, while critics argue that the sacrifices are made by the followers rather than by Quiboloy himself
