Morning fire Displaces 150 families in Davao

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — A fire early Friday morning destroyed approximately 60 residential houses in Bankerohan, Davao City.

The blaze left 150 families displaced, most of whom lived in structures made of light materials. Additionally, 11 houses sustained partial damage.

Residents of Barangay 5 specifically at Puroks 6-A and 6-B were forced to flee as thick smoke engulfed their community.

The village is one of the city’s thickly populated areas as it is near the Bankerohan Public market in the city’s commercial districts.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported that the fire was raised to a second alarm.

Fire officials estimate the damage at nearly PHP 1 million, but fortunately, there were no reported injuries. The BFP is still investigating the cause of the fire.

Affected families are currently being sheltered in the barangay gymnasium.
