TAGUM CITY, Philippines — Continuing the Administration’s whole-of-government approach to uplift the lives of Filipinos under the vision of ‘Bagong Pilipinas,’ President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the distribution of various assistance to farmers, fisherfolk, and families in Tagum City, Davao Del Norte on June 6, 2024.

The initiative, part of the government’s efforts to mitigate the impacts of the El Niño phenomenon across the country, saw multiple agencies coming together to provide much-needed support to those affected. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) distributed cash assistance worth PhP10,000 to beneficiaries, aiming to provide immediate financial relief to vulnerable families.

Additionally, the Office of House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez contributed by providing five (5) kilos of rice to each attendee, addressing immediate food security concerns amidst the ongoing challenges posed by the severe weather conditions.

During the program, President Marcos Jr. personally led the distribution of PhP10,000 cash assistance to ten (10) beneficiaries from three (3) provinces, symbolizing the government’s commitment to directly reaching out to those in need. Furthermore, the President announced the allocation of PhP10 million each to the Provincial Governments of Davao Del Norte, Davao De Oro, and Davao Oriental. These funds are intended to support local initiatives aimed at mitigating the effects of El Niño and enhancing the resilience of communities.

The event in Tagum City underscores the administration’s holistic approach to governance, where multiple government agencies collaborate to deliver comprehensive support to the Filipino people. This initiative is a testament to the ‘Bagong Pilipinas’ vision, focusing on inclusive development and sustainable progress, especially in the face of natural calamities.

By addressing both immediate needs through cash and rice distribution and longer-term resilience-building through substantial financial allocations to provincial governments, the administration demonstrates a balanced and proactive strategy in tackling the challenges brought about by climate change and its impact on local communities.
