Shakira Teases Heartbreak Song After Split from Gerard Piqué

It’s been years and years since fans got a passionate Shakira heartbreak song, and so the news that one might be finally coming is bittersweet.

Over the weekend, the newly single singer shared a dark, cryptic clip that seems to be the teaser for an upcoming track about her split from longtime boyfriend Gerard Piqué. The short video shows a man stepping on a human heart on the street and making it bleed, while the woman it presumably belongs to kneels in front of it, trying to save it.

Shakira even gave a sneak peek at the lyrics. “Nunca dije nada, pero me dolía. Yo sabía que esto pasaría,” she wrote in Spanish in the caption; it translates to, “I never said anything, but it hurt me. I knew this would happen.”

In another post, she revealed the title of the single, “Monotonía,” and hinted that it will be released on October 19.

Last month, the singer said in a post that she has been feeling inspired to make new music, and every time she enters her recording studio, she thinks of something to add to her upcoming album.

Shakira and Piqué separated earlier this year after 11 years together. In a joint statement in June, they confirmed their breakup and said that their kids, Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7, remain their biggest priority.

Soon, claims that Piqué cheated on Shakira toward the end of their relationship emerged, and though neither party has confirmed nor denied the rumors, the soccer star has since been linked to 23-year-old student Clara Chia Marti. Photos of the two kissing at Summerfest Cerdanya in Catalonia were released by Spanish media outlet Socialite in August.

In a cover interview for ELLE‘s October issue, the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer addressed the sudden breakup for the first time.

“And what’s also real is the disappointment to see something as sacred and as special as I thought was the relationship I had with my kids’ father and see that turned into something vulgarized and cheapened by the media. And all of this while my dad has been in the ICU and I’ve been fighting on different fronts,” the singer said. “Like I said, this is probably the darkest hour of my life. But then I think about all those women around the world who are going through hardship, who are going through a situation as bad as mine or as difficult as mine or worse.”
