Lizzo’s latest single is a disco-fueled bop about bouncing back from hard times.
The pop star released her second single off her upcoming album Special this week, following up her ultra-catchy Cardi B collab “Rumors” with the retro-pop song “About Damn Time.” In the new track, Lizzo declares that it’s “bad bitch o’clock” as she sings about emerging from a down period and realizing everything’s going to be alright.
“Oh, I been so down and under pressure / I’m way too fine to be this stressed, yeah / Oh, I’m not the girl I was or used to be / Bitch, I might be better,” Lizzo sings during the pre-chorus.
The song’s accompanying music video starts with the “Juice” singer dressed in gray sweats and white Crocs as she attends a “Stressed and Sexy” support group. When she’s asked to speak, Lizzo leaves the room and dances through an abandoned office building. As she looks into a mirror, she’s faced with her flashy alter ego, wearing a blue sequined jumpsuit with hip cutouts, white go-go ankle boots, and an ’80s beehive hairstyle.

She continues the fun video wearing the glam look, with scenes including a dance off with a janitor and a flute solo performed on top of a pool as dancers perform a synchronized swimming routine.
The Cuz I Love You singer paired the music video premiere with an album announcement. She revealed the Special album artwork on Instagram, a black-and-white headshot of herself wearing a sequined headpiece.

In an interview with Apple Music radio host Zane Lowe, Lizzo spoke on the new song’s universal meaning.
“‘About Damn Time’ can lead into so many conversations,” she said. “It’s about damn time I feel better, it’s about damn time we get out this pandemic. It’s about damn time we to get the first Black female Supreme Court Justice. There’s so many things. It’s about damn time we popped the champagne. It’s about damn time the tequila got here.”
