At this point, fans know that Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker ran off to a chapel in Las Vegas after the Grammys and got married—but we also know they are not legally husband and wife, because they failed to get a marriage license.
But during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! with her sisters (sans Kylie Jenner) and mom, the Poosh founder admitted she tried to get legally hitched to the Blink-182 drummer. The two just couldn’t find a way to get a marriage license at 2 a.m., which is when they decided to say “I do”—admittedly after a few cocktails.
“Kourtney, I think you’re the Kardashian of the week this week, because you went ahead and got fake married,” Kimmel told her onstage.
“Well, it’s not called ‘fake married,'” Kardashian said.
“It is called that,” Kimmel replied.
“There was no, like, possibility to get a marriage license at that hour,” Kardashian explained, adding that she thought everything in Vegas was 24 hours, but apparently not legal marriages.
“It was 2 a.m. and they were like, ‘It opens at eight o’clock,'” she recalled.
“So you wanted to get married for real, but were unable to get married for real,” Kimmel said.
“We did, yes,” Kardashian revealed. “We just did it anyway. It’s what’s in the heart.”
When Kimmel asked the family if they knew about the surprise wedding, mom Kris Jenner said she and Khloé Kardashian knew. “I was on FaceTime,” the Good American founder said. “I was sleeping,” Kim Kardashian said, adding that she found out the next morning, via their family group chat.
Kardashian shared sweet photos of her and Barker’s Vegas ceremony—where they wore matching black leather jackets, because of course—on Instagram yesterday. And while they may not be technically married just yet, sources have said there will be “several” other celebrations with “lots of fanfare” following the surprise nuptials—and Kardashian’s post caption seems like all the confirmation we need.
“Found these in my camera roll,” she wrote. “Once upon a time in a land far, far away (Las Vegas) at 2am, after an epic night and a little tequila, a queen and her handsome king ventured out to the only open chapel with an Elvis and got married (with no license). Practice makes perfect.”
