Front distances itself from dela Rosa as questions persist over his whereabouts and possible links to armed groups in Mindanao

COTABATO CITY  (November 3) — The Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) has denied protecting Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa from arrest, distancing the organization from the fugitive lawmaker as questions persist over his whereabouts and whether any armed group in Mindanao is helping him evade authorities.

In a statement, the MNLF said dela Rosa had no organizational or operational ties to the group, rejecting speculation that he may be under the protection of one of its factions.

The group said the senator’s public references to the MNLF largely stemmed from his experiences during the Marawi conflict and his support for peace-building programs benefiting former combatants and their children.

It also cited his advocacy for the faster integration of qualified MNLF and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) members into the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). These, it said, reflected policy-level engagement rather than personal or organizational ties.

The MNLF acknowledged that its founder, Nur Misuari, was known to be a friend of dela Rosa’s political patron, former president Rodrigo Duterte. It also noted reports that Misuari and dela Rosa knew each other personally.

But the group said such connections did not establish that dela Rosa was an MNLF member, an operational ally or someone under its protection.

It further described claims that the MNLF was sheltering the senator as speculative, pointing to divisions within the organization and uncertainty over whether Misuari’s faction would be willing or able to protect him from arrest.

The statement did not establish where dela Rosa is currently staying or whether any armed group is assisting him. His whereabouts remain unclear.
