TACURONG CITY (November 12) — Former Maguindanao del Sur board member Taharuddin Nul Mlok survived an armed attack Monday morning after gunmen opened fire on him along a busy street here.
Police said the incident happened around 10:45 a.m. in front of a convenience store in Barangay New Carmen. Mlok, 51, a resident of Datu Piang, had just boarded his bulletproof black SUV when two motorcycles carrying two men each pulled up and one of the riders began shooting.
The former provincial legislator was unharmed and managed to pursue the gunmen, leading to a brief exchange of fire before the suspects sped away.
“The victim was unharmed and managed to pursue the suspects, which resulted in a brief exchange of gunfire,” the Tacurong police report said.
The attack caused panic among bystanders as gunfire erupted in the area. One of the motorcycles used in the ambush was later found abandoned in a ditch in Barangay New Carmen.
Authorities are still investigating the motive behind the attack and identifying the suspects.
Mlok, a long-time political figure in Maguindanao del Sur, previously served as a provincial board member and has been involved in peace and development efforts in the region following the province’s split from the old Maguindanao.
