DAVAO CITY (August 25) – Davao Light and Power Co. announced an increase in residential electricity rates to P9.0782 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for the August–September billing, up P0.3010/kWh from last month’s P8.7772/kWh. The adjustment applies to bills received between August 11 and September 10.

The hike is mainly due to higher charges from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) and increased transmission costs from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). WESM prices fluctuate depending on supply and demand across the grid, while NGCP’s transmission charges rose following new Maximum Allowable Revenue (MAR) and Under Recoveries (UR) approved by the Energy Regulatory Commission.

Despite the increase, the new rate is still lower than earlier this year, when electricity reached P9.1053/kWh in May and P9.5514/kWh in April.

Davao Light advised customers to practice energy efficiency to help manage electricity expenses.
