DAVAO CITY (June 9) — A wooden ferry loaded with groceries sank off the coast of Barangay Baluno, Isabela City, on Friday afternoon, scattering supplies across the shoreline of Block 4.

According to the Isabela City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), responders were dispatched following reports of a maritime incident involving a sunken vessel. By the time they arrived, personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard had already rescued all passengers and crew members from the waters.

No fatalities were reported, although authorities have yet to confirm the total number of individuals on board the ill-fated ferry.

Recovered items, including grocery supplies, were retrieved from the shore and turned over to local barangay officials for safekeeping.

Initial investigation points to strong winds and heavy rains brought by a low-pressure area and southwest monsoon (habagat) conditions as the cause of the sinking.

Authorities are continuing their assessment of the incident.
