DAVAO CITY (April 17) – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has deployed BRP Malamawi (FPB-2403) to patrol the Davao Gulf as part of its intensified maritime security operations for Holy Week under “Oplan Byaheng Ayos: Semana Santa 2025.”​

The fast patrol boat began its mission on Maundy Thursday, April 17, focusing on the waters between Davao City and the Island Garden City of Samal, where passenger traffic is expected to surge during the Lenten break.​

Commodore Rejard Marfe, Commander of the Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao, emphasized the importance of heightened vigilance during this peak travel period. “This is a peak period for passenger travel, and it is our duty to ensure that the maritime domain remains safe and secure. The deployment of BRP Malamawi is a testament to our commitment to safeguarding lives and promoting maritime safety,” he stated.​

BRP Malamawi, a 24-meter French-made patrol vessel designed for high-speed response and surveillance missions. It is equipped to handle various operations, including search and rescue, law enforcement, and environmental protection.​

The PCG urges the public to adhere to safety protocols strictly, ensure that vessels are seaworthy, and report any suspicious activities or objects to the authorities promptly.
