He was on board an ambulance en route to Cagayan de Oro when disaster struck—a devastating accident on a treacherous downhill stretch in the town of Sultan Naga Dimaporo.
As the ambulance careened towards a deadly fall, Alcala’s immediate instinct was not to save himself but to protect the life of the patient in his care. According to police reports, Alcala held the patient firmly in his arms, shielding them with his own body as the vehicle overturned and plummeted into the cliff.
