DAVAO CITY – A carnapping suspect, identified only as alias Morsid, was shot and killed after he attempted to flee from police at the Toril Police Station on Saturday morning, February 15, in Brgy. Binugao, Toril, Davao City.
According to reports, the incident began when alias Morsid was flagged down by personnel from the Toril and Bansalan Police Stations following a dragnet operation. The operation was launched after a complaint was filed by the owner of a blue Ombak (‘bao-bao’) vehicle, which had gone missing while parked at a mall in Toril.
Police immediately tracked down the suspect while he was en route to the Cotabato area. Authorities have been monitoring Morsid’s group for several months, as they were linked to multiple carnapping incidents in Toril.
The situation escalated when the suspect reportedly drew a firearm and resisted arrest. In response, the authorities were forced to open fire, fatally wounding Morsid.
The police have yet to confirm if the suspect was involved in other recent carnapping cases in the area, but they have stated that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to address rising crime rates in Toril. Investigations into the incident are currently underway, and authorities are continuing their efforts to dismantle criminal groups involved in vehicle theft in the region.
This marks the latest in a series of operations targeting criminal syndicates linked to carnapping, with local law enforcement intensifying efforts to curb such crimes in the city.
