DAVAO CITY – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet lauded the Philippine government’s peace process initiatives and commitment to human resource development during a bilateral meeting with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. at Malacañang on Tuesday.
Cambodia’s Appreciation for the Philippines
Hun Manet deeply appreciated the Philippines’ role in peacebuilding and human resource development, particularly in civilian and military sectors.
“I appreciate the Philippines’ contributions to our peace process and human resource development in civilian and military fields,” Hun Manet stated.
He also acknowledged the significant contributions of Filipinos in Cambodia, recognizing their role in the country’s economic and social progress.
“We also recognize the vital role of the Filipino community in our socioeconomic progress,” he added.
The Cambodian leader highlighted the long-standing diplomatic ties between the two nations, which have now spanned 68 years.
He emphasized that cooperation between Cambodia and the Philippines extends beyond government-to-government relations, covering key sectors such as Defense and Security Trade and Investment, Economic Development, and People-to-People Exchanges.
“We are keen on taking our collaborations to new heights,” he affirmed.
Hun Manet also revisited the deep-rooted history between the two nations, recalling that King Norodom of Cambodia first visited the Philippines in 1872.
“Over the decades, our relationship has flourished, built on mutual respect and shared interests,” he said.
Expressing confidence in the future of Philippine-Cambodian relations, Hun Manet believes that his visit to Manila—his first as Prime Minister—will lead to a stronger, more dynamic partnership between the two nations.
“We are committed to expanding our collaborations and strengthening our friendship in the coming years,” he concluded.
