DAVAO CITY – Authorities actively search for individuals who violated the city’s strict firecracker ban during New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Director Colonel Hansel Marantan emphasized the importance of enforcing the law, stating, “We are looking for them now, and they need to face the law.”
A video posted by Patrick Niel Gallardo shows fireworks at a two-story house, with voices suggesting the location is Bangkal. This footage has prompted police to investigate and identify those responsible for the illegal use of pyrotechnic devices.
Maranatan has issued a directive to Talomo Police Station: “Find the people behind and file charges in court.”‘
City Ordinance 060-02 strictly prohibits the manufacture, sale, possession, and use of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices within Davao City. Penalties for violators are as follows:
- First Offense: A fine of ₱1,000 or imprisonment of 20 to 30 days, or both.
- Second Offense: A fine of ₱3,000 or imprisonment of one to three months, or both.
- Third Offense: A fine of ₱5,000 or imprisonment of three to six months, or both.
Mayor Sebastian Duterte has consistently reminded residents to comply with the firecracker ban to ensure public safety.
Duterte even warned that violators would face penalties and possible imprisonment, urging citizens to find alternative ways to celebrate the holidays without resorting to banned pyrotechnic devices.
The DCPO has been vigilant in monitoring and enforcing the ordinance, aiming to maintain the city’s record of minimal firecracker-related incidents. Authorities have urged the public to report any violations to help uphold the law and ensure community safety.
