DAVAO CITY — Two public utility van drivers tested positive for illegal drug use during a surprise drug test conducted at the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT) and a van terminal located in a mall on J.P. Laurel Avenue.

The inspection was part of Oplan Harabas, a joint initiative of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Land Transportation Office (LTO) Region XI, and other line agencies to ensure passenger safety.

Atty. Ernesto Rafael Robillo, LTO XI Regional Director, said the surprise drug test complies with the directive of the LTO Central Office to ensure that drivers are drug-free so that the general public is safe while plying their routes.

Out of 50 drivers tested at DCOTT, one tested positive for drug use, pending confirmatory results. Similarly, among the 22 drivers tested at the Bajada van terminal, one also tested positive and awaits further confirmatory testing.

The surprise inspection is part of Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: 2024, a campaign by authorities to promote safe travel and ensure public utility drivers are drug-free, safeguarding passengers on their journeys.

Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of regular monitoring and testing to enhance road safety and protect commuters.
