DAVAO CITY — Market rice retailers have started lowering their prices following the successful implementation of the Kadiwa ng Pangulo “Rice-for-All” program across Metro Manila, the Department of Agriculture (DA) reported.

The program, a collaborative effort between the DA, local dealers, importers, wholesalers, and the Philippine National Police (PNP), aims to ensure the availability of affordable rice for consumers. Under the initiative, rice is sold at PhP40 per kilo, with a purchase limit of 25 kilograms per person.

According to the DA, the initiative has created a noticeable impact on market prices. Rice sold through the Kadiwa outlets and rolling stores is priced PhP3 to PhP5 lower than those available at traditional market stalls.

This price difference has boosted sales at Kadiwa stores, prompting market retailers to adjust their prices to remain competitive.

Recent distribution efforts highlight the program’s reach and effectiveness. As of the latest report:

  • EDSA Balintawak Market (Southbound, Brgy. Balingasa, Quezon City) distributed 110 sacks of rice.
  • New Marulas Public Market (Along Market Road, Brgy. Marulas, Valenzuela City) sold five sacks.
  • Malabon Central Market (Along F. Sevilla Blvd., Brgy. Tañong, Malabon City) released 32 sacks.

A total of 147 sacks of rice were distributed in these areas, underscoring the government’s commitment to stabilizing staple food prices.

The Kadiwa ng Pangulo “Rice-for-All” program resumed operations on Friday, December 27, marking its seventh day of implementation. It targets additional public markets ahead of the New Year celebrations, ensuring affordable rice reaches more households during the holiday season.

The DA and its partners continue to monitor and expand the program to support Filipino consumers and alleviate market pressures amid fluctuating rice prices.
