DAVAO CITY — The National Food Authority (NFA) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) to implement a rooftop solar photovoltaic system at its headquarters in Quezon City. This initiative aims to cut electricity costs and enhance energy management for the agency responsible for ensuring the country’s rice supply.
“NFA is going green. Not only will we save on power costs with this solar rooftop project, but we are also contributing to reduced carbon emissions and protecting the environment,” said NFA Administrator Larry Lacson. He noted that this solar initiative will eventually be replicated in other NFA offices and warehouses across the country.
Under the agreement, NFA will lease a 100 kilowatt-peak solar PV system, which is expected to significantly lower its electricity expenses. Monthly billing will be based on the system’s net energy output, set at a rate 10 percent lower than current utility prices. This cost-saving measure will provide NFA with substantial financial relief, enabling the agency to allocate more resources toward maintaining sufficient rice buffer stocks.
The total solar capacity for the entire NFA network is projected to reach 5 MWp.
This project aligns with PNOC’s commitment to promoting renewable energy and energy self-sufficiency in government operations.
