Controversy surrounds possible underground drilling at Jose Maria College

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Speculation is growing about possible treasure or natural gold beneath the Jose Maria College (JMC) building, following reports of mining equipment being brought onto the property.

Both the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) cannot say if treasure or minerals exist and why there is reportedly ongoing drilling.

On Saturday, Lawyer Israelito Torreon, lead counsel for KOJC, alleged that the PNP is conducting drilling operations beneath JMC, supposedly searching for treasure rather than pursuing the fugitive church leader Apolo Quiboloy.

Torreon cited the presence of metal detectors and ground drilling machines as evidence and reported drilling noises. He also mentioned that photographs showing drilling holes have circulated on social media, which has fueled further speculation.

Torreon confirmed that they have requested the city government to issue a cease and desist order to halt the drilling operations, but they are still awaiting a response.

He noted that the Regional Trial Court (RTC) 15 has given the PNP ten (10) days to respond, though they seek to shorten this period to five days.

A cease and desist order is a formal notice requiring the immediate cessation of an illegal or allegedly illegal activity.

When asked whether he believes there is treasure or minerals underground, Torreon declined to speculate, stating it would be inappropriate given he was not present during the construction of the buildings.

The KOJC has yet to provide concrete evidence to substantiate its claims of mining activities but Torreon on a social media post showed a photo of a holed portion reportedly beneath JMC building.

In response, Police Brigadier General Roderick Augustus Alba, spokesperson for the special Teknon Alpha unit, dismissed Torreon’s claims as “fake news.”

“If Attorney Torreon has complaints, he should visit the nearest police station. We are not involved in treasure hunting,” Alba stated. He emphasized that the police are focused on apprehending individuals with outstanding warrants, not searching for treasure.

Torreon also mentioned that they have requested a court-issued restraining order against the alleged drilling activities and are seeking to expedite the court’s response from ten to five days.

There are unverified reports that the PNP is making a passage to the underground of the building because they cannot find the entrance as the building is so complicated.

Regarding the building plans, there is currently no available information on the approved plans for the structures within the 30-hectare KOJC compound.

The Newsline was informed that copies of building plans are sent to the National Archives every five years, leaving the city with only a plate copy.
