More than 10K ‘colorum’ vehicles were apprehended in June

DAVAO CITY, Philippines –— The Land Transportation Office (LTO) apprehended a total of 10,461 motor vehicles throughout June as part of its ongoing aggressive campaign against unregistered vehicles nationwide.

LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II, reported that the majority of these apprehended vehicles were motorcycles, totaling 6,824, followed by tricycles with 1,787, private vans with 954, private sedans with 451, and trucks with 230.

“This is proof that the LTO will not stop until all vehicles are registered, as it is not only a government obligation in exchange for vehicle ownership but also for the safety of everyone, as registration includes roadworthiness inspections,” said Mendoza.

“This effort aligns with the continuous advocacy of our DOTr Secretary Jaime J. Bautista to ensure the safety of all road users in our country,” he added.

Out of the 10,461 motor vehicles apprehended, 9,212 were issued traffic violation tickets, while 1,601 vehicles were impounded. Some of the impounded vehicles were being used for public transportation without the necessary government permits, also known as “colorum” vehicles.

Mendoza previously issued a memorandum to Regional Directors, emphasizing that a court order is required for the release of any motor vehicles apprehended and impounded in the anti-colorum drive.

“The LTO commits to the Filipino people that we will be aggressive in the campaign against colorum vehicles and unregistered motor vehicles because this is part of our mandate to ensure that all road users are safe,” Mendoza added.
