DAVAO CITY, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. awarded the Order of Lapu-Lapu Rank Kampilan to Seaman First Class Underwater Operator Jeffrey Facundo of the Philippine Navy on Sunday. Seaman Facundo was injured during an incident involving the China Coast Guard (CCG) near Ayungin Shoal in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) on June 17.
Accompanied by Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. and AFP Chief of Staff Romeo S Brawner Jr., President Marcos Jr. commended the troops for their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty despite the inherent risks they face.
President Marcos also conferred the Order of Lapu-Lapu Rank of Kamagi to 79 other participants in the mission. The Kampilan Medal honors those who have been seriously wounded or have suffered property loss in the line of duty, while the Kamagi Medal recognizes significant active involvement in national campaigns.
“I salute the eighty officers and troops who navigated the seas and exhibited utmost restraint amid severe provocation,” remarked President Marcos.
President Marcos Jr. concluded his visit by reaffirming his dedication to the armed forces and urging them to remain steadfast in their duties, stating, “We are shaping the future of the Philippines, drawing strength from our diversity while united in our pursuit of peace. To each of you, once again, well done! You have performed admirably, bringing pride to our nation and our military. Keep up the excellent work!”
