DAVAO CITY — The Philippine Consulate in Milan warned Filipinos who will seek employment in Italy to be careful against unscrupulous recruiters in the midst of the Italian government’s announcement that it would be admitting 452,000 foreign nationals for seasonal and nonseasonal employment in the next three years.
In an advisory posted on Friday by Consul General in Milan Elmer Cato, he reiterates his warning for Filipinos especially those in the Philippines, not to enter into transactions with individuals or agencies promising jobs in Italy to avoid becoming victims of fraud and illegal recruitment.
Reports reaching the consular office, some 223 individuals may have been victimized by these unscrupulous agencies and individuals and have collected about P40 million.
“The Consulate is reissuing this warning to help protect other Kababayan who could end up as victims of these individuals and agencies that have already defrauded a number of Filipinos not just in Italy and the Philippines but also those in other countries in Europe,” Cato warned.
Reports have it that some unscrupulous agencies and individuals collected huge sums from their victims to go to Italy for a promising job but ended up unemployed in the foreign land.
The Consulate also encouraged Filipino victims to coordinate with the government to end the scam. Based on the report which the consular office received some 223 individuals may have been victimized by these unscrupulous agencies and individuals and have collected about P40 million
