The late Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch in British history, touched the lives of billions around the world throughout her 70-year rule. Following the private, emotional procession among the royals yesterday, the state funeral for Her Majesty will officially be held Monday and broadcast internationally across multiple channels.
The 96-year-old monarch—who peacefully passed away last Thursday at Balmoral Castle in Scotland—will be buried at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, a place she frequented for the majority of her final years. Her coffin made its way to England on Tuesday, September 13, and she will be laid to rest next to her late husband, Prince Philip, who died in April 2021 at 99 years old.
For the international day of mourning, businesses of the Commonwealth are set to close, while thousands of dignitaries, public figures, and world leaders—including President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden—are projected to travel to London to pay their respects.
