Beyoncé Finally Announces Her Seventh Studio Album, Renaissance

Five years after Lemonade, Beyoncé is dropping hints about her next project.

Keeping busy since her last solo studio album release, Queen Bey has graced us with her epic Coachella performance, along with its live album and concert film, Homecoming. She also took her star turn, voicing Nala in Disney’s live-action The Lion King, and then spun it into the Afrobeats compilation album and film Black Is King.

Now, after emerging from the complicated year that was 2020, the superstar is promising that new music is on the horizon. “With all the isolation and injustice over the past year, I think we are all ready to escape, travel, love, and laugh again. I feel a renaissance emerging, and I want to be part of nurturing that escape in any way possible,” Beyoncé says in her September 2021 Harper’s BAZAAR cover story.

Bey’s seventh album is titled Renaissance and coming this summer.

Beyoncé finally confirmed that her seventh studio album was on the way in true Beyoncé fashion — a subtle social media update. The superstar updated her Instagram bio confirming the album’s title and sharing its release date of July 29. Spotify also confirmed the release with a tweet reading, “The countdown has officially begun. Beyoncé’s back July 29 #RENAISSANCE.” Fans were steadily awaiting the announcement after Beyonce removed her profile picture from Instagram and a mysterious “B7” placeholder appeared on her official website.

Beyoncé also hinted at the album’s title last year in her Harper’s BAZAAR cover story saying, “With all the isolation and injustice over the past year, I think we are all ready to escape, travel, love, and laugh again. I feel a renaissance emerging, and I want to be part of nurturing that escape in any way possible.”

She’s been recording steadily throughout the pandemic.

The superstar tells BAZAAR that she has spent the pandemic in the studio, applying her well-known dedication and music expertise to her upcoming project.

“I’ve been in the studio for a year and a half. Sometimes it takes a year for me to personally search through thousands of sounds to find just the right kick or snare. One chorus can have up to 200 stacked harmonies,” she says.

She reveals that recording music always brings her joy—the next album being no exception.

For fans who’ve found joy from re-watching Homecoming or Black Is King in the past year, know that Beyoncé feels similar joy in recording new music.

“Still, there’s nothing like the amount of love, passion, and healing that I feel in the recording studio. After 31 years, it feels just as exciting as it did when I was nine years old. Yes, the music is coming!” she shares.
