‘The Ultimatum’ Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

Netflix has a new hit reality show, based on the question of whether the grass is greener outside of a relationship or with your longtime partner. The Ultimatum premiered April 6 and promptly knocked Bridgerton out of the streamer’s no. 1 spot, with tons of viewers watching six couples split up and date among each other as they work to decide whether to marry their partners or move on.

The Ultimatum is a lot of things—a fascinating character study, a slow-moving trainwreck, a show somehow more intense than its predecessor. Netflix has gone all in on the new experiment, announcing the show’s renewal a week before season 1 even premiered. Here’s what we know about the series so far.

The Ultimatum makes its contestants try out life with a new partner.

For anyone who has yet to catch up, or has maybe seen the buzz on social media, the 10-episode series from the producers behind Love is Blind follows couples at the titular ultimatum, where one person is ready to get married while the other wants to wait, citing financial insecurity or skepticism of marriage itself for their hesitation. The pairs then split and choose new partners among the group to live with for three weeks in a trial marriage.

After the weeks apart, the original couples then stay together for another three weeks, where they attempt to work out their old issues and whatever new ones came up in their time apart. The season finale and reunion, airing April 13, will reveal whether any of these couples end up getting married, leaving the show single, or even leaving with the new partner they’ve met.

Season 2 will feature an all-queer, mostly female cast.

While there’s little news about casting so far, Netflix has revealed that the second season will feature queer relationships. In a parody music video featuring Love Is Blind and Too Hot to Handle stars, the streamer revealed that season 2 will feature an all-queer, mostly female cast. This makes the series Netflix’s first dating show to feature non-heterosexual relationships as a rule.

We do know for sure who will be hosting the show. Love is Blind hosts Nick and Vanessa Lachey are also hosting The Ultimatum, and they’re set to return for season 2. This means more scenes of the couple in the more hands-on hosting role, as they lead the show’s dramatic re-coupling dinners.
