Chlöe knows how she deserves to be treated.
The pop star released her latest solo song, “Treat Me,” this Friday, with an accompanying music video featuring fierce outfits and beauty looks, as well as a literal tiger. The lyrics of the empowering dance pop track demand respect from a romantic partner, with the singer saying, “Treat me like a treat me,” before a beat drop sampling Bubba Sparxxx and Ying Yang Twins’ 2005 track “Ms. New Booty” fills the chorus.
On an episode of the PEOPLE Every Day podcast, Chlöe, full name Chloe Bailey, told host Jason Sheeler that she drew inspiration for the single from a post-breakup revelation.
“I was getting out of a relationship, and I was just really feeling like I shouldn’t have to tell someone what I need,” she said. “It’s time for me to just give myself the love that I’m looking for. So that’s really where the inspiration behind [‘Treat Me’] came from.”

The “Have Mercy” singer also spoke on her decision to make the all-female video, which was directed by filmmaker Diana Kunst and featured a team of backup dancers performing intense choreography alongside Bailey.
“With the video, I wanted it to be strong and sexy and powerful, and you notice there’s no men in there. It’s all about me and the girls and women, and being sexy and fierce, and treating myself the way that I want to be treated,” she said.
In addition to discussing her second single, Bailey said that the title and tracklist of her debut album have been finalized, calling the forthcoming album “a really special body of work that I’m really proud of.” She also shared the best advice she’s received from her mentor Beyoncé.
“[The] greatest advice I’ve received from her is to trust my gut and my instinct, and to speak up for what I need and for what I want,” she said, “and I truly love her.”
