Prince William and Duchess Kate may have landed in Belize ahead of the first day of spring, but the duchess wasted no time dressing for the season.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge began their eight-day Caribbean tour yesterday, with their RAF Voyager flight landing in the country’s Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport Saturday afternoon. Upon arrival, the royal couple were greeted by the Governor-General of Belize, Froyla Tzalam and her husband Daniel Mendez.
For the occasion, Duchess Kate wore a lace Jenny Packham suit, featuring a belted top with padded shoulders and a knee-length pencil skirt, in a royal-blue hue paying tribute to Belize’s flag. She completed the look with a matching blue clutch and heels, as well as a sapphire-and-diamond necklace and drop earrings.
Prince William wore a coordinating light blue suit with a white shirt and black tie.

After their official welcome from the guard of honor, which also included a 21-gun salute, the duke and duchess traveled to the centre of Belize City for an official meeting with Prime Minister Johnny Briceño. They also posed for a photo with the prime minister and his wife Rossana Briceño at the city’s Laing Building.

The duke and duchess’ first official overseas tour since the start of the pandemic started off with a schedule change, as a visit to a Belize cocoa farm was cancelled in the wake of local protests. On Friday, residents from the indigenous Mayan village of Indian Creek in the Toledo District held up signs criticizing the Royal Family’s colonial ties and William and Kate’s plans to land a helicopter in a community sports field “without permission.”
A royal source confirmed to People that the visit had been canceled for “sensitive issues” involving the Indian Creek community, and that the couple will now visit a different location.
The rest of the royal tour will see the duke and duchess traveling to Jamaica and The Bahamas, as they mark Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee year, bringing sentiments from the monarch to the people of the Caribbean.
