The all-woman quartet pioneered the riot girl movement, creating some of the best punk rock to come out of the state of Washington at the height of its early-’90s reputation as a male-dominated music factory. “Rebel Girl” is an exemplary tale of women supporting women. Singer-songwriter Kathleen Hanna sings about a girl who “thinks she’s the queen of the neighborhood,” a line that would usually point to some sort of jealousy.
